Spawning grounds of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) in the North Sea (Gonzalez-Irusta and Wright 2016)
The Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) spawning grounds dataset is derived from the existing (Gonzalez-Irusta and Wright, 2016) spawning ground map available in the SpatialData.gov.scot Metadata Portal. (Gonzalez-Irusta and Wright, 2016) spawning ground dataset has been modified in order to comply with the standard format developed by the EMODnet Seabed Habitats Lot. In that EMODnet format, the map key classifies areas as ‘high’, ‘medium’, and 'low' suitability.

In June 2024, the EMODnet Seabed Habitat Lot converted the dataset (Gonzalez-Irusta and Wright, 2016) to the EMODnet standard format. In this EMODnet format, the map key classifies areas as 'high', 'medium' and 'low' suitability. Values 2, 3, and 4 of the original raster dataset, corresponding to 'rare', 'occasional', and 'recurrent', were assigned value 'low', 'medium', and 'high', respectively. Grid cells with a value of 1 (corresponding to 'unfavourable') were assigned the value noData. The raster dataset was then converted into a polygon dataset. The dataset, originally in the WGS84 Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere projection, was unprojected.
