Multibeam echosounder data and seabed sampling data acquired during the INSS and INFOMAR national seabed mapping programmes were the primary sources of data used in the generation of this habitat map. The original sediment classes assigned to the data were translated to the EUNIS habitat classification system as part of the MESH Atlantic project.
Low level EUNIS habitat map to delineate rock and soft sediment habitats.

An Ordnance Datum or OD is a vertical datum used by an ordnance survey as the basis for deriving altitudes on maps. A spot height may be expressed as AOD for "above ordnance datum". Usually mean sea level (MSL) is used for the datum.
Malin Ordnance Datum
Derivation of vertical height or depth (in metres)
In the Republic of Ireland, OD for the Ordnance Survey of Ireland is Malin Ordnance Datum: the Mean Sea Level (MSL) at Portmoor Pier, Malin Head, County Donegal, between 1960 and 1969.

Substrate classes were generated from the analysis of MBES data collected as part of the INSS and INFOMAR national seabed mapping programmes. Rock outcrops were digitised from shaded relief imagery. Supervised classification of the acoustic classes identified from backscatter imagery into sediment classes were done using sediment samples collated from the aforementioned seabed mapping programmes and fisheries surveys together with information on sediments obtained from Admiralty Charts. The substrate classes identified were translated to the EUNIS habitat classification system using additional information about biological zones (derived from bathymetric contours) as part of the MESH Atlantic project.
