Rock outcrops were digitised from shaded relief imagery. Supervised classification of the acoustic classes identified from backscatter imagery into sediment classes were done using sediment samples collated from the aforementioned seabed mapping programmes and fisheries surveys together with information on sediments obtained from Admiralty Charts. The substrate classes identified were translated to the EUNIS habitat classification system using additional information about biological zones (derived from bathymetric contours) as part of the MESH Atlantic project.
