2015. Natural England. Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast SPA. Rocky Shore Survey (birdfood availablility study).

This shapefile contains the digitised polygon boundaries of biotopes recorded within the rocky shore regions of the Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast SPA. The resource has been created under the requirements of the Natural England Marine Monitoring Framework. This work aimed to conduct phase 1 biotope surveys along already established transects; a rapid phase 1 biotope survey of the surrounding area; and collect survey data on the species composition of different biotopes, distribution and abundance of target prey species (birdfood) and determine the size distribution of 3 selected prey species. This shapefile represents the digitised field maps produced under the phase 1 biotope surveys.

Statement

This resource contains boundary information on the rocky shore environment within the The Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast European Marine Site (EMS). 12 transects were run across the study site, ensuring coverage of all areas of rocky shore within the EMS, and Phase 1 biotope surveys were conducted. Each transect noted species composition, while field mapping was undertaken to mark the boundaries of the biotopes present at each transect location. The shapefile was produced in effect digitising the field maps and updating attribute information according to biotope classifications assigned by the field scientists. Attribute fields are consistent with the MESH Atlantic Translated Habitat Data Exchange Format (DEF).
