EMODnet Seabed Habitats collated habitat point data
Composite data holdings of habitat point data from groundtruthing data in European waters.
Data are collated by EMODnet Seabed Habitats partners from a variety of source datasets and conformed and standardised into the portal's Darwin-core compliant schema.
Habitats are described in a variety of classification systems, including EUNIS (European Nature Information System), Habitats Directive Annex I, Marine Strategy Framework Directive Benthic Broad Habitats, Regional sea conventions (HELCOM HUB, OSPAR) and local classifcation systems. Sampling methods are standardised to NERC vocabulary server P01 parameters or ICES vocabulary concepts where possible.

Original data are cleaned and transformed into Darwin Core-compliant internal schema by EMODnet Seabed Habitats partners using local knowledge of seabed classification systems. Checks for data completeness, validity and conformance are undertaken prior to upload into the database. True accuracy of measurements are assumed from trusted data sources.
